___ H.L. GROEN is an established visual artist and arts educator. She resides in historic Windsor, CT with her incredibly talented and musically gifted husband Eric, and their energetic and creative daughter Sophie. She is known as Heather Groenstein to her family, loved ones, and friends; and as Ms. G. to her students. H.L. received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley College and her Master of Arts in Holistic Thinking from the Graduate Institute.

H.L.’s  paintings, sculptures, and drawings are imbued with mythological and spiritual images that flow freely from her mind and her soul; infused with symbolism and the sublime obscurities of her unconscious. Each work of art is a manifestation of her passions. Her images are expressive; filled with bold colors, strokes that are both dominant and wistful. Her art is saturated with life and energy.

H.L. seeks and attains insights from art. She puts pen to paper and lets spirits speak. Happen upon her while she is seeking and you'll see her scribbling, doodling, and making shapes seemingly unconscious of the actions the pen is making in her hand. Her eyes stray from the page to some unfixed point; her attention flickers like a candle from you, to the page, and to places unknown.

It is H.L.’s wish that her audience will form their own stories and personal connections to her works. What they perceive may be different than what she had challenged herself to create. H.L. feels that personal connection is the ultimate purpose of her art once she releases it into the world.

“Creating art has been the one constant throughout my life.”  As an individual she continues to evolve and to search out the truth in herself.  H.L’s art is how she finds her way; who she was, who she is, and who she will become. H.L. has surmised that for her, art is not only a type of therapy, but also a reward for her mind that requires ceaseless feeding.

H.L. has been teaching visual arts with a holistic approach for over a decade in Hartford, CT. H.L. was honored to be recognized as Teacher of the Year at the nationally acclaimed Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy in 2009.  Her goal as an educator is to inspire and empower the inner-artist in each of her students.  H.L. continues to champion the arts and act as a voice for arts awareness throughout the educational system.

In addition to creating her own art and facilitating the art-making of her students, H.L. developed the cooperative organization the Libertine Collective in order to foster a sense of community amongst Connecticut artists. The L.C. has blossomed into a creative group of like minded artists representing every medium; artists who express themselves and motivate one another. H.L. and the Libertine Collective have produced numerous art, music, and spoken word events throughout central Connecticut.
